Do you NEED to return to the Dealer for your Log Book Service?

A log book service for your new car is just like a visit to the dentist. You know you need to book it in but you’re hesitant because you also know it’s going to be expensive.

After purchasing your new vehicle, it’s imperative that you look after it. We know that regular visits to the mechanic are a good thing. Do you really need to return to the dealer that sold you the car to have the work done?

The short answer is ... NO!

Dealer v’s Non-Dealer Servicing

Once upon a time you had to return to the dealer for your servicing, otherwise your warranty would be voided. This changed a decade ago when the Trade Practices Act 1974 (Cth) was updated, renamed and became the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth).

One of the additional consumer protections that were introduced prevented a supplier attaching certain conditions to a sale. For example, to keep your new car warranty, you had to have your car serviced at the dealership where you purchased it from.

As a comsumer, you can choose where you take your vehicle for its Log Book Service.

As a consumer, this prevented you the freedom to choose which company or business you wanted to deal with. Today, a vehicle manufacturer can’t tell you where to take your car for service, nor can they void the warranty if one of their dealers didn’t do the work.

Support Local Business

At St Marys Tyre and Wheel Centre we can complete your log book service in an efficient and timely manner when each one becomes due.

While we do appreciate your business and support, please note that any defect warranty work on your vehicle can only be completed by a member of the dealer network you purchased it from.

A Stitch in Time

We all know the proverb ... A stitch in time saves nine. This is the philosophy behind each log book service as outlined by the manufacturer.

The diff fluid levels should always be checked in a Log Book Service.

By taking the time to look after and service your new vehicle on a regular basis, the chance that anything major will go wrong is minimised.

While there are no guarantees that this philosophy is foolproof, it’s widely accepted that a well maintained vehicle will serve you much better than one that is neglected.

Log Book Service

At the conclusion of each service, your log book will be stamped. This verifies that the service was carried out by our qualified mechanics according to the specifications detailed by the manufacturer.

By completing each log book service on time, you're ensuring that your new car warranty is maintained. As a bonus, a regularly serviced and well maintained vehicle will usually retain a higher resale value.
